A single ChatGPT query consumes almost 10 times more electricity than a Google Search. With such artificial intelligence queries exploding, data center power demand is projected to rise 160% by 20301.

Many prognosticators worry that such meteoric, AI-driven demand growth could strain the grid more than anything that has recently come before it, noting that these loads could impair reliability in areas that already have limited capacity.

This mounting scrutiny puts data centers under even more public pressure to be good stewards for their communities. But what if these large energy loads were to improve grid reliability instead?

In this interactive panel hosted by CPower and OBM, experts from the mining sector will show how they have overcome similar concerns about their load growth by participating in virtual power plants, including through demand response. Mining experts will also share best practices for AI data centers that would like to benefit from leveraging their flexible loads.

The audience will learn how many AI loads can be as flexible and responsive as crypto mining — and where grid operators will pay customers for this interruptible computing load — as we transition to a modernized, yet constrained, grid powered by clean energy.

The audience will gain several takeaways including:

  • The opportunities for AI loads to participate in real-time grid services today;
  • How technology helps miners diversify their offerings to support hybrid AI compute investments; and
  • Case studies from miners that have leveraged flexibility to benefit their operations, progress sustainability goals and help their communities.
